Vampires, werewolves, zombies, aliens, witches, ghosts—for several centuries, these archetypes have figured prominently in genre fiction, in no small part because they've adapted to suit the specific needs and fears of society at any given time. The vampire in particular has had quite a colorful tenure. Vampiric creatures and spirits date at least as far back as Mesopotamia and Ancient Greecebut the vampire as we know it emerged in the early s, when natives and foreigners alike began recording the folklore and superstitions of the Balkans, that cluster of eastern European countries that would become home to the most famous vampire of all time: Count Dracula.
Besides ghoulish monsters, they can be charmers, warriors, sex symbols, sources of comedy, nihilistic philosophers and aliens. Though mostly confined to horror, vampires have also bleed their way into everything from slapstick comedy to award-winning dramas. Oftentimes, these seemingly villainous predators can even serve as sympathetic protagonists or badass antiheroes.

Starring the little-known actors Adrian Pasdar and Jenny Wrightthe film was part of a revival of serious vampire movies in the late s. Despite performing poorly at the box office, critic reviews were very positive.
Nasty, filthy, evil creatures. That's what vampires are. They only look beautiful on the outside, but their intentions are terribly dishonorable.

Just like every other genre, horror has its tropes, commonly recurring themes or ideas that constantly seem to show up in every movie no matter what. A number of films in the horror genre managed to infuse sex into the story in a way that worked and created something that could turn audiences on while still giving them the heebie jeebies. But what makes a horror movie, or any movie for that matter, sexy?
It is based on an equally strange sci-fi novel by Colin Wilson. Ina European Space Shuttle mission to Halley's Comet finds in the comet's tail an abandoned spacecraft with three apparent naked humans, two men and a woman, in suspended animation encased in glass pods. Later, after taking the pods aboard, the Shuttle goes out of contact with ground control.
