Sign in. The world don't give a shit about me. Randy 'The Ram' Robinson : I just want to tell you, I'm the one who was supposed to take care of everything.
And then it all went to pot and he lost everything in a sea of excess and downright belligerence. An uncommonly humble and enormously honest man, interviewing him was not a chore: it was indeed an absolute pleasure. Congratulations on your performance.
After seeing him in action--at the New York Film Festival press conference for The Wrestler it was the Closing Night Film and during a recent roundtable--you gotta hand it to roughhouse actor Mickey Rourke. When he makes a comeback, he makes a helluva comeback. Rourke had become so washed up, he once felt a return to boxing he started out boxing before turning to acting was a better course of action rather than acting so he did that in the mid-'90s.
It is a fight that many Hollywood has-beens have picked but few have won; to launch a comeback from the wilderness long after their celluloid star has faded. This week, Mickey Rourke clambered onto the stage at the Baftas and acknowledged the joy, and the pain, of coming back in from the cold as he collected his best actor award for his role in The Wrestler. It was a sweet moment for the former boxer, turned Hollywood superstar, turned failing, ageing boxer, turned triumphant Hollywood elder statesman. And Rourke could have chosen no better vehicle through which to rise from the ashes than the lead character in The Wrestler: Randy "The Ram" Robinson, a great wrestler in the s whose prowess in the wrestling ring has long since declined.
Golden Globe winner for The Wrestler talks to Uncut! Constant pain. The only way I would do this movie was if I could give all of myself to it.
Mickey Rourke is trying very hard. He used to be beautiful. He used to be rich.
Coming out in a few weeks Nov. Theseus Cavill is a mortal man chosen by Zeus to lead the fight against the ruthless King Hyperion Rourkewho is on a rampage across Greece to obtain a weapon that can destroy humanity. For Mickey Rourke, he seems to be in a better position now that the frenzy of coming back into the business has died.
InMickey Rourke — beaten and bruised from his years of amateur boxing and pissing off seemingly every producer, director, and casting agent in Hollywood — was discussing his career status at the press junket for DominoTony Scott's schizophrenically shot bounty hunter flick. So if I fuck this up I might as well jump off the fucking balcony. Earlier that year, Rourke appeared in Robert Rodriguez's Sin City as Marv, a hulking tank of a man hell-bent on catching a cannibalistic serial killer. The role ended up earning Rourke something he hadn't experienced in more than a decade: praise.
Directed by Darren Aronofsky Requiem for a DreamThe Wrestler is the first serious film about professional wrestling, even though it has been a major part of American culture for decades. He lets his wife Rachel Weisz do that. I knew why he wanted me to do this part.
Philip Andre Rourke Jr. He was a tough kid from Schenectady, N. At his peak, women loved him because he was better than anybody else at smirking in a way that looked like his hard-on gave him terrible emotional pain. Rourke's career is notable for the heady price he paid for his eccentricities, the most expensive of which being that his credibility as an actor was labeled with a scarlet question mark.
